‘This study is part of a set done for a commission - the final commission consisted of 2 larger paintings of scenes from the isle of skye. This initial study set the tone and the style for the later pieces and has a great spirit all of its own, the rough and tumble seaweed on the rocks in the foreground, giving way to the bright sunlight striking the beach in the middle distance and the distant hills emerging from the rain clouds in the distance. ‘
